Common Mistakes with Accommodation safety

So when you are traveling to another town or country, the last thing you want is to have your hotel room broken into and your gear stolen.

There are some very simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your belongings.

  1. Make sure the room that you have booked has secure locks on the doors and windows
  2. If you are unhappy with the level of security, go to the office and insist on a better room
  3. Before you book the room, check to see if there is a small lockable safe in the room
  4. If there if there isn't a lockable safe in the room, check with management about using the Hotels safe. (Though I discourage you from staying in a place with no regard to safety)
  5. When you go out, double check the that the door is locked, it may not have an auto locking device
  6. If your car is parked in the open, don't leave your personal documents in the vehicle.
  7. If you are staying for a few days, don't leave your valuables laying around the room, for house keeping staff to see, and if you think something has gone missing, report your concerns immediately
So that is a start, please feel free to add any of your tips
